Organic Spintronics

Organic Spintronics was established in 2003 (spun off from CNR) to work on several research areas, one of them being spintronic materials and processes.

It seems as if the company is no longer in business.

Qnami is a Basel, Switzerland-based company that develops fundamental new technology using quantum mechanics. The control and measurement of the state of a single electron enables Qnami to measure what could not be measured before. The Company calls this 'quantum sensing'.

Founded in 2017, Qnami launched the Qnami ProteusQ™, the first commercial Scanning NV (Nitrogen Vacancy) Magnetometer, in 2019. This tool, which uses the company’s patented Quantilever™ diamond scanning probes, provides an innovative platform for the analysis of magnetic materials at the nanoscale.

In addition, the company intends to extend its patented quantum microscope technology into applications enabling the design and production of quantum computers and spintronics devices.

QuantumWise is a provider of software solutions for development of nanotechnology. QuantumWise bought the assest of Atomistix after it went bankrupt in January 2009. The company is working in close collaboration with the Nano-Science Center at the Niels Bohr Institute of Copenhagen University.

QuantumWise is offering a system of integrated software modules that can accurately calculate properties associated with electron distribution and transport. The software can accurately simulate experiments with spin-dependent transport, as encountered in Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) technologies and Magnetic

Rhomap logoRhomap was spun-off from Durham University in 2011 to develop manufacture-to-order scientific instrumentation for high precision magneto-transport measurement systems. Rhomap's instruments targets new materials and next generation semiconductors, photovoltaics, spintronics and ferromagnetic systems.

Rhomap's web site seems to be empty so it's not clear whether the company is still active.

Finland-based Spindeco Technologies developed a proprietary technology (called SpinX) which is based on the polarization of conduction electrons, which reduces dissipation in conductors and appliances. The technology reduces energy consumption, improves the efficiency and lowers the operating temperature.

Spindeco targeted several markets for its SpinX materials, including lighting, batteries (especially EV batteries), energy generation and audio equipment. The company seems no longer to be in business.

SpinEdge Ltd. is an Israeli company, founded in 2022. The Company’s team consists of experts in spintronics, AI, advanced nanomanufacturing and high-tech business.

SpinEdge is aiming to revolutionize AI inference and Edge computing performance using spintronic technology – nanoelectronics based on the electrons’ spin (an intrinsic quantum property), developing an analog Spintronic-based AI accelerator for inference acceleration. SpinEdge's accelerator achieves x10 improvement in TOPS (Tera operations per second), and at least x50 times in TOPS/W energy efficiency against today’s most advanced GPUs and AI accelerators.

The technology is especially beneficial for edge devices, having restrictions on power consumption, but still requiring strong data processing capabilities (like smart cameras, drones, autonomous cars, biochips, etc).

The SpinEdge spintech analog AI accelerator will be sold as a chiplet and is meant to be integrated with any existing processor, GPU, or AI chip, offering the ability to upgrade and perform complex AI calculations and analysis at a fraction of the cost and the power, and at a much higher speed.

Spintronics-Info, based in Israel, is a web publication focused on Spintronics technologies. Spintronics-Info has been providing news and resources since 2006. The site is regularly read by industry professionals, researchers, system designers and consumers interested in next generation spintronics technologies.

Spintronics-Info is edited by Ron Mertens.
